Shizuoka's Gyokuro no Sato Camellia Garden is home to approximately 900 camellia trees in around 300 types, and since different varieties bloom at different times, visitors are able to enjoy different colors, shapes, and sizes of the flowers from winter through spring.
The Gyokuro no Sato Camellia Festival is a celebration of this, and the first 300 visitors to the event on the day will receive free amazake (a sweet fermented rice drink) and tonjiru (pork soup) – so if you are planning on attending, get there early!
If you're the crafty, hands-on type, there will also be a nerikiri (traditional Japanese sweets) making experience. To take part in this you do need to make a reservation, which can be done by phone on 054-668-0019. The nerikiri experience is priced at 1500 JPY.
